Man, I need a gun

Okay, listen. If I am doing 120km/h in the fast lane and I am passing a stream of cars in the middle lane, you have no leg to fucking stand on. The very fact that you would prefer to drive at 200km/h in said lane does not confer some magical right for it to be so. One nanosecond isn't enough following distance and your wild gesticulation will be met with an utter lack of humour, which the gun will make abundantly clear...

It does amaze me how vehemently some people believe that you SHOULD in fact move over. Makes no sense to me.

Equally iritating though is when cars choose to drive at well less than 120 in the fast lane and make no attempt to move over.

Oh... glad cica likes your little gat.

maybe equally irritating, but not equally dangerous or immoral.

As long as you're passing cars on the left I don't think you need to be doing 120.

I think the most reasonable reaction in these circumstances is to slow right down. The reasons are as follows:
- the other person is endangering your safety by not keeping a safe following distance
- the rational thing to do is to find a way of increasing your safety
- one option is to speed up so that the following distance becomes safer. Unfortanutely the 200km speed negates the safety benefits of a bigger following distance.
- another option is to find a way of pulling over to the left lane as soon as possible (clearly this is the course of action most favoured by the other driver). This is also unsafe, however. It is reasonable to conclude, based on the other driver's behaviour, that he is an unpredictable maniac who could attempt to pass on the left at any moment, including the same moment that you decide to change lanes.
- that leaves slowing right down as the only safe option. At very, very low speeds even very small following distances don't pose a danger to life.

The fact that this is the course of action most likely to utterly infuriate the arsehole in the BMW is just an added bonus.

(I do agree, however, that the gun is necessary to deal with the road rage implications.)

hmmm... admirably rational argument and generally I agree. in this case I would have had to decrease my speed very slowly, he was just too close.

Hahaha. I can just imagine you glaring at various drivers.
